I will always be deeply thankful – T.H.
I never expected to learn firsthand how essential elder law could be. When my husband Bill and I first began working with Stephanie Bivens, it felt like we were simply getting our affairs in order for the future. I could not have known how soon that future would arrive. Bill’s health declined much earlier than either of us anticipated, and in the midst of that difficult time, I found myself profoundly grateful that we had already done the work to prepare.
What began as practical planning became something far deeper. With Stephanie’s guidance, we put in place the documents and decisions that would carry us through the most challenging season of our lives. When confronted with a request for an essential document to support issues surrounding Bill’s healthcare, I had it in hand. When asked to provide proof of my authority to make financial decisions, I could easily do so. When it came time to sell an asset or manage our bank accounts, every detail was in order because Stephanie had prepared us so carefully for the future. Trusts, powers of attorney, health care directives, and long-term care planning were no longer abstract terms. They became the framework that allowed me to care for Bill in the way he would have wanted, with clarity and peace of mind.
Elder law gave us more than protection. It gave us calm in the midst of uncertainty, and it gave me the confidence to focus on my husband’s care rather than on what might go wrong. For that, and for the compassionate expertise behind it, I will always be deeply thankful.
