How Often Should You Review and Update Your Estate Plan

The following are circumstances which typically warrant a review, as updates may be necessary:

  • Move to New State
  • Divorce
  • Marriage
  • Family Births or Deaths
  • Serious Illness
  • Change in Personal Financial Status (e.g., sale of business, inheritance, lawsuit settlement)
  • Change in Law

In general, we recommend a review of your estate plan with your estate planning attorney every 3-5 years, unless changes in circumstances such as those listed above warrant earlier review.
